These amounts are estimates based on our own experience or documented recommendations. This sheet is intended to help you prepare adequate amounts of feed, but always watch your animals to be sure they’re getting enough.
Chaffhaye: 1.5-2# per 100# of animal weight; 2-2.5# per 100# if pregnant or lactating. An average Nigerian adult weighs 75#, so figure around 2# per day per adult if fed as the sole ration. You can add free choice grass hay and reduce the amount of Chaffhaye fed.
Alfalfa: If feeding alfalfa instead of Chaffhaye, I figure 550-600# for a 6 month feeding season per adult. I count kids as adults for hay projections because they eat more during their growth periods.
Minerals: Our average consumption is 20# of New Country Organics Goat Mineral per year per adult. This is fed free choice always.
Grain: Grain is only fed to milking does while they are on the stand. I figure 200# of grain per doe for 10 months of milking.
